History

  • 1858: The city of Khabarovsk was founded.
  • 1938: On October 20, 1938, Dalnevostochny Kray was divided into Khabarovsky and Primorsky Krays.

Topographic Feature and Characteristics

  • Khabarovsk Krai is washed by the Okhotsk Sea and Japan Sea. The coastline extension is 3,390㎞, including the islands, the largest of them are Shantarsky Islands. The territory occupies an area of 788,600㎢ or 4.5% of Russia`s total area. More than half of the territory consists of plateaus and mountains. An extensive river system allows the use and development of the river shipping, and the territory`s thousands of lakes are bound with fishes.

Geography/Climate
  • Area : 787,633㎢
  • Location : The Khabarovsk Territory is located in the center of the Russian Far East. Land, marine and air routes pass through this territory connecting the interior parts of the country with the Pacific Ports, as well as the CIS and Western Europe countries with the Asian Pacific Rim countries. Khabarovsk Krai is one of the largest administrative-territorial units of Russian Federation. The territory of the region stretches at 1,800 kilometers from the North to the South, and from the West to the East - at 125~750㎞. The distance from Khabarovsk Krai center to Moscow City is 8,533㎞ by rail and 6,075㎞ by air.
  • Climate : The territory has a moderate monsoon climate with an average summer temperatures of no more than +24°C in the south and +15°C in the north; winter temperatures range from -23°C in the south to -40°C in the north in inland regions and -18°C and -24°C, respectively, on the coast.

Industry
  • Industrial structure : The republic plays an important role in the Russian economy because of its tremendous mineral resources. The main industry in the republic is mining. Sakha produces 100% of Russia's antimony, 99% of its diamonds, 24% of the gold, 33% of the silver. It is also a major producer of coal, natural gas, tin, timber, fish and other natural resources. The diamond mining industry is the main source of Russia's foreign currency income. Sakha has a large potential for energy production, there are more than 30 known oil and gas fields in the republic.
