On May 26, CHEN Ribiao, Chinese consul-general in Busan visited the NEAR Secretariat, met with Secretary-General LIM Byung-jin, and exchanged views on cooperation between NEAR and the Chinese Consulate General in Busan.

Mr. Lim introduced the activities of NEAR and those of its Chinese members, and emphasized the importance of cooperation among local governments and exchange in the private sector amid the current political landscape of Northeast Asia, where competition and confrontation are intensifying. He also requested that the Chinese Consulate General in Busan take an interest in NEAR as the Secretariat makes efforts to strengthen cooperation with its Chinese members.

Mr. Chen said that he had broadened his understanding of NEAR through this visit, adding that NEAR is a multilateral cooperation organization consisting of local governments that plays an essential role in the peaceful development of the Northeast Asian region, and that he hoped that the two organizations would work closely together in the future as NEAR’s development directions are aligned with those of the Chinese Consulate General in Busan. Furthermore, he suggested that NEAR join the Chinese Consulate General in Busan in co-organizing the annual UCC Competition event.

The meeting was attended by two representatives from the Chinese Consulate General in Busan, Counselor WANG Chonglong and Deputy Consul-General FAN Huizhe, and four staff members from the NEAR Secretariat, including WOO Dae-beom, head of the Planning and Public Relations Department, and CHOI Ju-hwa, head of the International Cooperation Department.
