The 12th Korea-Japan (Hokuriku) Economic Exchange Conference was held on 5-7 Sept. in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province of Korea, participated by 80 people representing the central governments, regional governments incl.those from the Hokuriku Region of Japan, economic associations and businesses from both countries. The "Korea-Japan (Hokuriku) Economic Exchange Conference" is one of the joint projects between prefectures in the Hokuriku region of Japan (the Hokuriku region indicates Toyama, Ishikawa and Fukui prefectures, which are NEAR members) and four provinces along the East Coast of Korea (Daegu Metropolitan City, Ulsan Metropolitan City, Gangwon-do Province and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province) aimed at promoting economic development and exchange in the fields of trade, investment, and technological cooperation.
During the conference, a wide range of themes were discussed, including the economic trend of the Hokuriku region after the Great East Japan Earthquake, best practices of Korea-Japan cooperation and tourism partnership, while concrete cooperation measures were proposed under the framework of sub-meetings on medical convergence (medicine, bio, medical devices, medical tourism) and processed agricultural foods and fisheries products.
Meanwhile, on 6 Sept., Fukumi Kuroda, a famous Japanese actress and honorary ambassador of Pohang City of Gyeongsangbuk-do, who received the Korea Government Medal for Distinguished Contribution to Korea-Japan Cultural Exchange, was invited to address the participants.
