The NEAR Secretariat held the 2017 North East Asia Youth Leaders Forum under the theme, ‘Youth! Lead the World with Emotional Intelligence and Convergent Mindset’ with 87 participants from five countries (23 from China, 2 from Japan, 21 from Korea, 24 from Mongolia, 17 from Russia). The forum was held from August 7 to 11 at the Busan University of Foreign Studies.

The participants were assigned to 10 teams and held discussions on given topics.  On the last day of the forum, each team gave a presentation. During the cultural exchange session, participants from each country showed culture performances which had been prepared in advance, prior to the start of the forum.

At the Opening Ceremony, Ambassador Hong Seong-hwa of International Relations to Busan Metropolitan City and Vice-President Lee Jeongbae of Busan University of Foreign Studies attended and gave the congratulatory speeches.

During the opening speech, the NEAR Secretary-General said that he hopes this forum will be helpful for the youth in the region to grow future leaders as they broaden their perspectives on the world, based on the understanding of lives of other people living in other regions.
