NEAR Secretariat Meets with Representatives of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and Tomsk Region2018-04-17

On April 11, a delegation headed by Secretary-General Hong Jong-kyoung attended a luncheon meeting with Vladimir Basilev, the Head of the Department for External Relations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), who was visiting Krasnoyarsk Region to participate in the Northern Forum.



Secretary-General Hong noted the importance of the participation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in the General Assembly, which will be held in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, China this September. High-level officials from the Sakha Republic shall be present for the selection of the new chair of NEAR and propose its plans and directions. Secretary-General Hong also requested  the active participation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in the Subcommittee meetings on Logistics and Transportation.

 


On April 12, a delegation from the NEAR Secretariat met with representatives from Tomsk region headed by Maxim Volkov, deputy head of the Department for International and Regional Relations of the Administration of the Tomsk Region. At the meeting, Maxim Nikolayevich emphasized the importance of developing cooperation in the area of youth and college student exchange among the NEAR regional governments, and he asked for the active support of the Secretariat.



Tomsk region, also known as the " Athens of Siberia," is one of the educational centers of Russia, with a high concentration of universities. Students from the region are participants in the NEAR Youth Leaders Forum and NEAR Art Contest. Notably, in 2017, an Excellence Award was given to Myachin Evelina from the Tomsk Art School for her art piece titled “A Tale of the Northern Region”, which is shown above.
