Secretary-General Hong Visits Irkutsk Region, Russia2018-06-11

A NEAR delegation headed by Secretary-General Hong Jong-kyoung visited Irkutsk Region, Russia from Monday, June 4 to Wednesday, June 6, 2018 and held a meeting and official dinner with Governor Levchenko Sergey to discuss activities and cooperation between Irkutsk Region and NEAR.





The NEAR Secretariat requested the participation of Irkutsk Region in the General Assembly to be held this September and in the Subcommittee meeting on Logistics and Transportation which will be held in December. Irkutsk Region requested NEAR’s support for the Youth Forum to be held in June, and for further support in the expansion of medical cooperation. Discussions continued regarding cooperation on tourism between Irkutsk and the member regional governments. Irkutsk, home to the Baikal Lake, a World Heritage Site designated by the UNESCO.




Furthermore, the NEAR delegation visited Irkutsk State Railway Transport University and held a meeting with Sergey M. Koutsenko, Vice Rector of Academic Affairs and Konstantin Grigorichev, Vice Rector for Research and International Cooperation to discuss further cooperation on NEAR events such as the NEAR International Forum.  On Wednesday, June 6 the delegation met with Consul-Governor Eom Kee-young of Korea in Irkutsk over an official dinner and discussed support for enhancing cooperation between the regions in Siberia under jurisdiction of the Korean Consulate-General and NEAR.
