NEAR Russian Member Regional Governments in Far Eastern Districts Participate in the First Korea-Russia Regional Cooperation Forum2018-11-13

From Wednesday, November 7 to Friday, November 9, 2018, the First Korea-Russia Regional Cooperation was held in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. Nine regional governments of the Russian Far Eastern Federal Districts, including 7 NEAR member regional governments, participated. The opening ceremony of the forum was attended by President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea, Kang Kyung-wha, Minister of Industry and Resources, Sung Yoon-mo, representatives of 17 Korean metropolitan cities and provinces from Korea, Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East Alexander Kozlov, 9 representatives of the Far Eastern Federal Districts from Russia, representatives of business sectors and experts from both countries.

The forum was attended by delegations headed by representatives including Prime Minister of the Sakha Republic Vladimir Solodov, Governor of the Magadan Region Sergey Nosov, Governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergey Furgal, Governor of the Amur Region Vasily Orlov, Vice Governor of the Kamchatka Territory Marina Subbot, Vice-Governor of the Primorsky Territory where the next forum will take place, Konstantin Bogdanenko, and Minister of Economic Development of the Sakhalin region Alexey Uspensky among many others from NEAR member regional governments. The representatives participated in the Opening Ceremony, Regional Governments Summit,  adoption of the Pohang Declaration, and business sessions for investment attraction.

In the Business Session under the topic, “Expansion of Economic Cooperation between the Regional Governments of Korea and Russia” and “Perspective Projects in the Far East of Russia,” the Governor of the Amur Region Vasily Orlov and Prime Minister of the Sakha Republic Vladimir Solodov gave a presentation on investment of each region. Furthermore, Deputy Governor of Kamchatka Territory Marina Subbota delivered a presentation titled “The Role of Korea-Russia Regional Governments for Promotion of Business Cooperation.” In addition, over 30 Russian entrepreneurs and representatives of regional investment attraction agencies participated in trade consultations with representatives of about 100 Korean companies.
