Intersfera, a public youth organization of the Republic of Sakha, Russia, led by Maksim Ryazanskiy, aged 23, hosted an online preliminary “Model NEAR Conference” for 15 local high school students on February 18.

Participants each represented a NEAR member and debated under the theme, “Methods of International Cooperation in a Post-Covid 19 Era.”

The organization will decide on the final plans for the main Model NEAR Conference based on the results of the preliminary meeting.

Meanwhile, the Model NEAR Conference was planned since “The Way of a Diplomat,” a project designed by 23-year-old Aleksander Novopriezzhiy, was selected in a diplomacy-related project competition sponsored by the Russian Federal Agency for Youth Affairs and hosted by the Republic of Sakha in May 2020. Novopriezzhiy is a member of Intersfera and a student of North-Eastern Federal University.

The project is a program to help local residents in the Republic of Sakha enhance their awareness of international cooperation by offering guest lectures on diplomacy and holding international model conferences modeled after international cooperative organizations, such as NEAR.

NEAR Secretary General Kim Ok-chae endorsed the conference strongly. He stated that he would have materials related to NEAR sent to the organization so that it would be able to hold the mock Model NEAR Conference in March.
