On November 14, three staff members of the NEAR Secretariat, including CHO Sun Hwa, participated in the Marine Ecological Environment in the East Sea Region and Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Development Seminar, hosted by Eurasia One East Sea Forum.

The forum was attended by not only its members but also experts in different areas, who gave lectures on the main themes and gave presentations on ten different policy proposals. Through these means, diverse ways of cooperation in the East Sea Rim were discussed.

In particular, BAE Gi-chan, the former Secretary-General of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, gave a presentation on the role of local governments in revitalizing exchange and cooperation among the four countries in the East Sea region. During the presentation, he referred to NEAR as a leading forum for exchange and cooperation among local governments in the East Sea region.

The Secretariat staff members listened to the presentations on the issues that could be linked to NEAR subcommittee meetings, such as environment, traditional medicine, or marine fisheries. In addition, after a time of networking, they encouraged the speakers to participate in the upcoming NEAR international forum and subcommittee meetings.

The One East Sea Forum was founded in September 2019 with the vision for a united East Sea that encompasses the entire Eurasian continent. It is a non-profit organization, and it has conducted inter-Korean economic cooperation and Eurasia-related projects on culture, art, sports, tourism, and education.
