NEAR Secretary-General Visits Governor of Tottori Prefecture HIRAI Shinji2023-03-03

NEAR Secretary-General LIM Byung-jin visited the office of Tottori Prefecture and met with Governor HIRAI Shinji on Tuesday, February 28. Mr. Lim expressed gratitude for Mr. Hirai’s continued interest and support for NEAR. They exchanged opinions on ways for Japanese members to actively participate in NEAR activities, attending the General Assembly scheduled to be held in Ulsan this October, and appointment of a Japanese member that has played a leading role in the establishment of NEAR as the next chair, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of NEAR in 2026.


Mr. Hirai congratulated Mr. Lim on his appointment as the Secretary-General and welcomed his visit to Tottori Prefecture. He provided information on the current exchange status between Tottori Prefecture and Korean local governments, such as sister-city agreement with Gangwon-do Province, and exchange with Gyeongju and Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. Moreover, he mentioned his discussions with Governor LEE Cheol-wu of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, who is also the Chairman of the Association of Korean Local Governments, during his visit to Korea. Mr. Hirai also expressed his willingness  to expand exchange between the Japanese and Korean governments in the future and further broaden their relationship with NEAR.
