〇 The 2025 World Green Growth Forum (WGGF) was successfully held over two days starting May 14 at the Lahan Hotel in Pohang.
〇 Under the theme “Green Transition for the Future: Finding a Path Amid Challenges,” the forum brought together over 300 participants, including representatives from major international organizations such as the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the UN Climate Change Innovation Hub, and ICLEI Korea, as well as leading global companies such as POSCO and Eco-pro.
〇 The forum featured three main sessions focused on sustainable cities, industrial transition, and technological innovation. Experts from various countries and industry leaders presented strategies for addressing the climate crisis and achieving carbon neutrality.
〇 Building on the momentum of the WGGF, Pohang City has expressed interest in hosting the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP) in the future. Mayor Lee Kang-deok previously introduced Pohang’s climate initiatives at COP29 last year to strong international response. Furthermore, Pohang is set to host the System Innovation Workshop (S.I.W.), a subsidiary meeting of the UN Global Innovation Hub (UGIH), on July 3–4 this year.
