On November 12, the 8th Korea–Japan Governors Meeting was successfully held in Incheon Metropolitan City.

From the Korean side, participants included Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok, Chair of the Governors Association of Korea, along with Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Sejong City Mayor Choi Min-ho, Gangwon Province Governor Kim Jin-tae, and Jeonbuk Province Governor Kim Kwan-young

From Japan, Nagano Governor Abe Shuichi, Chair of the National Governors’ Association of Japan, attended alongside governors from nine prefectures, the largest number to date.

Local leaders from both countries discussed common challenges—including economic revitalization, agriculture, and responses to population decline—and reaffirmed the need to establish practical and sustainable cooperation models. Discussions focused on economic cooperation and demographic issues.

More than two hundred delegates, the largest number ever, attended the plenary sessions, which were held under the themes of “Exploring Cooperation Measures in the Economic and Industrial Sectors” and “Policies to Address Population Decline and Regional Depopulation.”

The meeting served as a venue of mutual trust and friendship, where regional governments from both countries worked together—separate from national political dynamics—to seek solutions to issues directly affecting the lives of local residents.
