NEAR Secretary-General Invites Siem Reap Province, Cambodia to Become a NEAR Associate Member2019-01-22

On Monday, January 14, 2019, a NEAR delegation headed by Secretary-General Hong Jong-kyoung visited Siem Reap Province, Cambodia and met with Vice-Governor Pov Piseth. At the meeting, the NEAR delegation briefly introduced the association and associate membership and extended an invitation to the province to join NEAR as an associate member.
Vice-Governor Pov Piseth, responded positively, commenting that if the province was to join NEAR as an associate member, he anticipated that the province would be able to expand its networks to metropolitan governments in Asia and further develop its tourism and agriculture. Siem Reap Province, home to the globally renowned cultural heritage sites, Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, is one of the cultural centers of Cambodia.



The NEAR delegation also attended the official launch of the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) which was held at the Sokha Siem Reap Convention Center in Siem Reap Province. The ACC is a platform that exists to help seek harmony and development in Asia through connectivity of cultures. It is supported by the International Conference of Asian Political Parties. Suos Yara, the Director-General of the ACC stated that he hopes to cooperate with NEAR for the sake of cultural exchange and development in Asia.
