NEAR Secretariat Meets with Associate Member, Ho Chi Minh City2018-10-05

On Friday, September 28, a NEAR delegation headed by Secretary-General Hong Jong-kyoung visited Ho Chi Minh City Hall and met with the Vice-Chairman Le Thanh Liem of External Affairs and held discussions. At the meeting, Secretary-General Hong invited representatives of HCMC to the meeting and asked for a special speech to be made at the 12th General Assembly to be held in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province, China from October 29 to 30. Vice-Chairman Liem responded that as an associate member of NEAR, HCMC was willing to participate in NEAR activities, especially those related to the Subcommittee on Tourism. Furthermore, HCMC requested NEAR’s support for the Ho Chi Minh Economic Forum which will be held this November.



The meeting was attended by Bui Ta Hoang Vu, chief of tourism and Pham Tran Thanh Thao, deputy chief of external relations from HCMC. From NEAR, Keum Du-yeon, manager of Planning and General Affairs Team, Jung Enyoung, staff member, and Kwon Hyukrak, representative of the Gyeongsangbuk-Do Representative Office in HCMC, were present at the meeting.
The NEAR delegation visited Phnom Penh City, Cambodia where they held an official meeting over dinner with Suos Yara, a parliamentarian of the Cambodia People’s Party, and the vice chairman of the International Affairs Committee, and consulted regional governments in Cambodia with regards to joining NEAR as associate members.
