Secretary-General Lim Byung-jin met with Aisen Nikolaev, Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), on the occasion of his participation in the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), held on Tuesday, September 3, in Vladivostok, Russia.
Secretary-General Lim first expressed his gratitude, noting that the Republic of Sakha had served as the NEAR Chair from 2018 to 2021 and actively participated in NEAR activities as the coordinator of the Subcommittee on Sports. He then provided an update on NEAR, and activities of Russian member governments. Additionally, he introduced the upcoming High-Level Working Committee in Liaoning Province this September and the Subcommittee on Innovation Plus in Hunan Province in October, inviting the Republic of Sakha to participate in both. In particular, he extended an invitation to Head Nikolaev to attend the NEAR General Assembly scheduled to take place in Shenyang, China, next year.
Mr. Nikolaev emphasized the significance of NEAR's role amid the current Northeast Asian geopolitical situation. He assured that the Republic of Sakha would actively participate in NEAR’s various activities, including the upcoming High-Level Working Committee in Shenyang.
Additionally, He outlined the region’s plans for hosting the NEAR Subcommittee on Sports in 2025 and requested active support from the NEAR Secretariat.
In response, Mr. Lim pledged to provide full support from the Secretariat to ensure the successful hosting of the 2025 NEAR Subcommittee on Sports in the Republic of Sakha.
The meeting was also attended by Kirillin Gavril, Minister of External Relations and Ethnic Affairs; Kim Borisov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sakha to the Far Eastern Federal District; and Spiridonov Leonid, Minister of Sports.
