On September 4, Secretary-General LIM Byung-jin met with Tsydenov Alexey, head of the Republic of Buryatia, during his trip to Primorsky Territory to attend the Eastern Economic Forum.
Mr. Lim expressed his gratitude to Mr. Tsydenov for his official letter expressing his intention to serve as the next NEAR Chair. He conveyed his hope that the Buryatia Republic would be successfully appointed as the NEAR Chair at the upcoming High-Level Working Committee in Liaoning Province and play a leading role in the NEAR platform.
Mr. Lim provided information on the recent NEAR activities, the current status of Russian member governments, and upcoming events including the High-Level Working Committee and the Subcommittee on Innovation+. He requested participation from the Buryatia Republic. As the Republic of Buryatia will organize the 2025 NEAR General Assembly as the next NEAR chair, Mr. Lim encouraged Mr. Tsydenov to participate in the committee with other Russian government officials to ensure a successful handover of the NEAR chair position.

In response, Mr. Tsydenov emphasized that the Republic of Buryatia greatly values its cooperation with NEAR and appreciates the organization’s recent activities. He added that the deputy prime minister will attend the High-Level Working Committee to present the region’s stance on the NEAR chair assignment. Additionally, he committed to participating in next year’s General Assembly.
They also discussed the responsibilities of the NEAR chair and the proposal process. Mr. Tsydenov affirmed that he would dedicate efforts to developing NEAR during his two-year tenure as chair.
Kochetova Ekaterina, deputy prime minister of Buryatia, and Geser Dorzhiev, director general of the Republic’s Regional Development Fund, also attended the meeting.

Prior to the meeting with Secretary-General Lim, Mr. Tsydenov guided a tour of Buryatia’s exhibition hall, which was set up at the “Far East Street” during the Eastern Economic Forum, showcasing Buryatia’s regional specialties.
