NEAR Secretariat Attends Economic Cooperation Forum for CEOs in Northeast Asia Hosted by Pohang, Korea on October 302020-10-30

The NEAR Secretary General and his party from the Secretariat attended the 2020 Economic Cooperation Forum for CEOs in Northeast Asia, which was held in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Korea on October 30, and watched the presentations and discussions.


Hosted by Pohang and supported by Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and the NEAR Secretariat, the forum was held both online and offline, under the theme “The New Northern Policy and the Challenges and Mission of Pohang in the Post-COVID era.”


The forum began with a keynote speech by Hong Seok-woo, former Minister of South Korea’s Knowledge Economy. Afterwards, under the theme, "Responses and Cooperation of Northeast Asian Local Governments after COVID-19,” the mayors of Hunchun, Jilin Province, China, Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, Vladivostok, Primorsky Territory, Russia, and Pohang, Korea each delivered a presentation on the measures implemented by each city and the policies to be promoted in the near future.


Following the presentations, experts from China, Japan, Russia, and Korea presented various measures for the development and cooperation in Northeast Asia in the post-COVID era through presentations and discussions titled, “Development in the Economy of the East-Sea Rim Region and Pohang’s Strategic Choice.”
