NEAR’s First Video Conference Held with 32 Members from Four Countries Present on Monday, September 282020-09-28

At the request of the Republic of Sakha, NEAR’s first video conference was successfully held on Monday, September 28, titled, “New Ways of International Cooperation Development in the Post-Pandemic World.” 111 participants from 32 NEAR member regional governments of four countries, China, South Korea, Russia, and Mongolia, took part in this online event.


Gavril Kirillin, Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Sakha presided over the video conference. There was a welcome speech by Sergey Mestnikov, Acting Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Sakha, followed by congratulatory remarks by Kim Ok-chae, the NEAR Secretary General, a video message from Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, and a congratulatory video message from Esteban Leon, Head of City Resilience Profiling Programme, UN-Habitat.


Afterwards, six representatives from four member regional governments each gave a presentation on the experience of having implemented policies on health, education, business support, urban development, etc. during COVID-19, sharing relevant information. They concluded the NEAR special session with promises to meet again at the NEAR General Assembly which will be held at Yakutia in 2021.
