The 13th NEAR General Assembly, scheduled to be held in the Republic of Sakha, Russia this October, has been postponed until 2021 due to the prevalence of COVID-19.

Taking the inevitable situation into account, the Republic of Sakha, the NEAR Chair, stated that it hoped to postpone the 13th NEAR General Assembly until next year including the chair’s term of office. Accordingly, the Secretariat collected opinions in written form from the member regions in accordance with the NEAR Charter. Out of a total of 78 member regions, 66 member regions from five countries, excluding North Korea, voted in favor of the postponement of the 13th General Assembly and the extension of the chair’s term of office.

Once the schedule of the 2021 General Assembly has been finalized, the NEAR Secretariat will notify all member regions of the schedule around three months before the General Assembly is held.
