First Meeting and Founding Ceremony of the Subcommittee on International Exchange of Human Resources2018-10-04

The Subcommittee on International Exchange of Human Resources held their first meeting on September 20, 2018 in Hunchun City, Jilin Province, China.

With 24 representatives from China, Korea, Mongolia, and Russia, and attendees from Jilin Province, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Hunchun City Government, and related institutions, about 150 participants took part in the founding ceremony and subcommittee meeting.

Secretary-General Hong Jong-kyoung stated in his congratulatory speech that human resources development and exchange was important in the new era of Northeast Asia due to the improvement of inter-Korean relations. He added that through the Subcommittee on International Exchange of Human Resources, NEAR could contribute to the co-prosperity of the region.

The NEAR Secretariat has signed a mutual agreement with Hunchun Government to promote the exchange of human resources. At an interview with the Hunchun City Press, the NEAR Secretariat stressed the significance of the founding of the subcommittee and its future cooperation plans.


The meeting was followed by key-note speeches and discussion on exchange programs designed to seek means for human resources development in the region.

Prior to the event, Secretary-General Hong held a meeting with the chief of the Department of Commerce in Jilin Province and discussed ways to develop the committee.


On the evening of September 20, a cultural performance and dinner was hosted by Mayor Zhang Jifeng of Hunchun City. The cultural show included Chinese, Japanese, and Mongolian traditional performances by the Hunchun City performance team and a Russian performance team based in the area.
