NEAR Secretary-General Delivers Video Message at the “2025 Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum” Hosted by Shanxi Province
NEAR Secretary-General Lim Byung-jin delivered a video message at the “2025 Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum” hosted by NEAR member government Shanxi Province on Saturday, September 27.
Secretary-General Lim emphasized, that “Shanxi Province has made leading achievements in the field of green energy, including eco-friendly coal mining and hydrogen energy, thereby contributing to achieving carbon neutrality and responding to the climate crisis.” He added “The Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum, as a platform for international cooperation, plays an important role in realizing global goals of energy conservation and carbon reduction. The NEAR Secretariat will also work closely with Shanxi Province to support the promotion of exchanges and cooperation among member governments in various fields, including energy and climate change.”
Shanxi Province, as China’s key base for energy resources, has led the development of new technologies for green transition, such as coal and hydrogen energy. Since 2016, it has served as the coordinator of the NEAR Energy and Climate Change Subcommittee, facilitating information sharing and joint responses among member governments, and acting as g a bridge in regional energy cooperation through forums and seminars.

Launched in 2016, the Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum has been held annually and has established itself as a representative cooperation platform for sharing achievements with the international community in support of green energy transition and carbon neutrality. The 2025 forum, under the theme “Future with Geothermal Energy, Development Driven by Low Carbon,” featured a variety of programs including international conferences, specialized forums, and industrial exhibitions.
