NEAR Secretary-General Establishes Network With Key Personnel During Mongolia Visit2018-04-05

A NEAR delegation headed by Secretary-General Hong Jong-kyoung visited Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia from March 28 to 30, 2018 to hold talks between the NEAR Secretariat and the representatives of the Mongolian Membership. On March 30 (Fri.) the delegation held a meeting with Urgamal Byambasuren, the Deputy Head of the Cabinet Secretariat Government of Mongolia. At the meeting, Secretary-General Hong introduced NEAR activities and future plans, such as the NEAR General Assembly, to be held this year, and regular meeting plans with the governors of the Mongolian member regional governments. In response, Deputy Head Byambasuren agreed with the importance of international exchange among regional governments in Northeast Asia, and promised the support of the central government regarding the participation of Mongolian regional governments in NEAR meetings and events.



On March 29 (Thur.), Secretary-General Hong visited the Mongolian National University of Science and Technology and met with Vice-President and Professor E. Bazarovagchaa, who was a participant in the NEAR International Forum which was held in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province in 2017. On March 30 (Fri.), the delegation held a luncheon meeting with Mr. Bayasakh JK, Director of Mongolian Academy of International Relations, a prominent scholar on international political science. The NEAR Secretary-General exchanged opinions on various situations in Northeast Asia and requested his participation in the NEAR International Forum, to be held later this year.


In addition, the NEAR delegation participated in a luncheon hosted by Ambassador Oh Song of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia, where they also gave a presentation on NEAR and its activities.
