The Secretariat of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments (NEAR) has finalized the list of participants for the 2025 NEAR Youth Leaders Forum, scheduled to take place from August 4 to 8 at Handong Global University(HGU). This event is co-hosted by NEAR and HGU. Applications for the forum, which were open from May 28, attracted submissions from a total of 143 students from eight countries. The NEAR Secretariat conducted a through review process, considering the recommendation of member governments, applicants’ academic institutions, their level of engagement, and language proficiency. On July 11, 50 finalists were officially selected.

Under the theme “Global Green Growth and the Role of Youth Leaders,” the forum will run for five days and feature a range of programs. These will include expert lectures and thematic discussions on environmental protection and green growth in Northeast Asia, the role of youth leaders in achieving shared prosperity and a mock NEAR General Assembly simulation.
Additionally, participants will take part in cultural excursions to Pohang and Gyeongju, as well as intercultural exchange programs aimed at promoting mutual understanding and friendship
The forum seek to empower youth to take a leading role in tackling environmental and sustainable development challenges, while providing a platform for future leaders of Northeast Asia to explore collaborative solutions from the next generation's perspective.
