Secretary General Kim Ok-chae Visits NEAR Chair, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russia2019-07-03

A delegation from the NEAR Secretariat headed by Secretary General Kim Ok-chae held a meeting with the current NEAR President and Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aysen Nikolaev. He also attended the Ysyakh Festival, the biggest folk festival in the region, and gave a celebratory speech on behalf of the foreigners attending this event.

Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Aysen Nikolaev, requested the support of the NEAR Secretariat to encourage NEAR members to take part in the NEAR Working Committee Meeting in August and the thirteenth General Assembly which will be held next year. Secretary General Kim Ok-chae promised that the Secretariat would make an effort in response to Head Nikolaev’s request, and also explained the endeavors to make reforms to the Secretariat since his inauguration.


At the Ysyakh Festival, which symbolizes abundance, a performance of a ceremony worshiping the Sun God and celebrating natural regeneration was given, and 200,000 of people, the largest number of participants ever, enjoyed the festivities.


 

Additionally, Manager Choi Ju-hwa and other experts on Russia from the NEAR Secretariat were favorably received by actively supporting the signing of the mutual cooperation agreement between Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and the council of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) which took part during the event.
