On June 11, NEAR Secretary-General Lim Byung-jin met with Nurdaulet Medeuov, Director of Tourism of Kazakhstan’s Turkistan Region, on the sidelines of the 15th NEAR General Assembly held in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China.
Secretary-General Lim congratulated the Turkistan Region on joining NEAR as an associate member and expressed hope that the region would actively utilize NEAR as a valuable multilateral exchange platform. He encouraged the region to expand its international cooperation, seek bilateral exchange opportunities, and contribute to the development of both Turkistan and Northeast Asia, as well as to the promotion of peace in the region.

Director Medeuov thanked NEAR for its support of Turkistan Region’s accession as an associate member and reaffirmed the region’s strong interest in fostering cooperation with NEAR. He also conveyed the region’s commitment to active participation in future NEAR activities.
Originally, Deputy Governor Talgat Kozhbekov was scheduled to attend the General Assembly, but due to unavoidable domestic circumstances, Director Medeuov participated in his place.
At the General Assembly, Turkistan Region became NEAR’s third associate member following Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Chuy Region, Kyrgyzstan.
