Secretary-General Kim Ok-chae visited the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat based in Seoul Special City, South Korea, on June 17. He had a meeting with TCS Secretary-General Michigami Hisashi and Deputy Secretary-General Kang Do-ho and exchanged opinions on ways to cooperate between NEAR and the TCS.

Secretary-General Kim gave a presentation on close cooperation between the Assembly of European Regions (AER) and the European Union (EU). Furthermore, he suggested cooperation, stating that cooperation between the TCS, in charge of cooperative works between central governments, and NEAR, a platform for exchange between regional governments, should create a synergistic effect.

Secretary-General Michigami stated that NEAR was a platform that could continue exchange more flexibly than the TCS, whose exchange could be affected by political situations. Mr. Kang said that the TCS had been focused on trilateral cooperation between South Korea, China, and Japan. However, it has started to open its doors to other countries in Northeast Asia, enabling them to join in on some of its projects. He also said that going forward, he would review fields in which the two organizations could cooperate.
