The NEAR Secretariat appointed previous Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Sendai, Yang Gye-hwa, as the PR ambassador of NEAR to Japan. Accompanied by expert on Japan, Son Mi-kyoung, Yang engaged in various public relations activities in six northeast prefectures including Akita Prefecture, Yamagata Prefecture, and Aomori Prefecture from March 11 to 15, 2019.

Yang held face-to-face talks with prefectural governors including Satake Norihisa of Akita Prefecture, Yoshimura Mieko of Yamagata Prefecture, and Mimura Shinko of Aomori Prefecture, introducing NEAR and the upcoming events of 2019, including new subcommittees. Yang requested the active participation and interest of the Japanese members.

Also, Yang held a meeting with and introduced NEAR activities to Councilor Rika Ouchi of Yamagata Prefecture, Councilor Shimizu Etsro of Aomori Prefecture, and associated persons of the Korean Residents Association in Japan. All parties were invited and attended a meeting held by the NEAR Secretariat last year through the visiting project to Korea for councilors of six northeast prefectures.
