Inauguration of the 5th Secretary General Ok-chae Kim of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments (NEAR)2019-05-13

Ok-chae Kim was inaugurated as the 5th Secretary General of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments (NEAR) during an inauguration ceremony held by the NEAR Secretariat on May 13.

Secretary General Kim stated that in spite of the political and diplomatic conflicts in the region, the inter-regional exchange between local governments has been steady since NEAR’s establishment. He also mentioned that NEAR would continue to strive for the formation of a community in East Asia that transcends political structures and ideologies through fruitful cooperation.

Secretary General Kim graduated from the Korea Military Academy (38th year) and served as the First and Second Secretary and as the Counselor and Minister to the Korean Embassy in Japan. He completed his duties as the 17th Consul General of the Korean Consulate General in Fukuoka, Japan, which marked an end to a public career spanning 36 years. Following retirement, Secretary General Kim taught at the International Education Center of Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea as a visiting professor.
