As the coordinator of Toyama Prefecture, Toyama City held the 14th Subcommittee on Environment from November 13 to 14. At this meeting, Toyama City continued to act as the coordinator over the next two years and report on the activity and the progress status of individual projects.

The subcommittee was attended by five regional governments from China (Heilongjiang Province), Japan(Toyama Prefecture and Yamagata Prefecture), Russia (Khabarovsk and Primorsky Krai), two observer groups (Liaoning Province in China and Saga Prefecture in Japan), and four delegations from the NEAR Secretariat including Secretary General Kim Ok-chae and new Director of International Cooperation Department Kim Won-gon.

Secretary General Kim expressed his gratitude to Toyama Prefecture, a founding member, for their substantial and continued contributions in operating and developing NEAR and the Subcommittee on Environment in his opening address. He stressed the importance of continued exchange between North East Asia’s regional governments regardless of the political and diplomatic issues between central governments.
