NEAR Secretariat Holds a New Year’s Meeting with Governors of 15 Regional Members in Mongolia on Friday, January 32020-01-06

Secretary General Kim Ok-chae and a delegation of five members of the NEAR Secretariat visited Ulaanbaatar City in Mongolia from Wednesday, January 1 to Saturday, 4. There, they held a New Year’s party with 15 heads of NEAR regional governments including Arkhangai Province and Bayankhongor, and also visited Ulaanbaatar City and the Cabinet Office on January 3.

In the New Year’s meeting, heads of regional governments in Mongolia made various suggestions to the Secretariat including arranging exchanges between Korean and Japanese basic local governments and Mongolian regional governments, encouraging high-level executives of members to participate in General Assembly and Working Committee, stressing the necessity of economic exchange beneficial to regional governments.

Secretary General Kim promised to make efforts from areas that can be resolved at the level of the Secretariat and asked Mongolian members to participate actively in various NEAR international exchange events such as the General Assembly which will be held in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) around September.

In addition, Secretary General Kim held a meeting with the deputy director of the cabinet office, Byambasuren and the vice mayor of Ulaanbaatar City, Ankhmaa and asked for cooperation while he explained the event plan for the Northeast Asia Young Leaders Forum 2020. Additionally, he visited Mongolian International University (MIU) and discussed detailed plans regarding holding a young leaders forum on January 2.
