History

  • Khan Khentii is the great king of Mongolia, Jinghiz Khan’s birth place who turned many Mongolian states into the empire of Mongolia. He was titled as “The Figure of the New Millennium”for his achievements. “Tsetsen Khan,”founded in the late 17th Century, was one of the first provinces, which had the name“Khalkh.”According to the decision of the People’s government, Tsetsen Khan was renamed Khan Khentii uul Province in 1923. As one of the administrative revolutions for the development of society and economy of the country, Dornod Province was separated from Khan khentii uul Aimag in 1930 and Svkhbaatar Province in 1942. Khan Khentii Province has been with the name and the territory as it is since then.

Topographic Features

  • The Khentii Aimag is divided into three regions with different soil and ecosystems due to its geographical features and climate: 1. Taiga Region of Khentii Mountain; 2. Mongol-Daguuri, forest steppe region; 3.Dry steppe region of Dornod in Mongolia.

  • Area : 80,325㎢
  • Location : Khentii Aimag is located at the valley of Kherlen, Onon, and Ulz rivers. It contains almost all of the Khentii Mountain area, which is at the north latitude 46 to 49 degrees, and the east longitude 108 to 113. It borders the Dornod, Svkhbaatar, Gobisumber, Tvb, and Selenge Aimags, and Russia to the north.
  • Climate : Average temperature during summer at 30~35 degrees, winter -32~-37 degrees Annual precipitation in Khangkai Region 320mm, steppe region.
