Background and Purpose

• The Subcommittee on Sports was established at the 9th NEAR Working Committee meeting in 2013, and the Republic of Sakha, Russia, was decided as the coordinator of the subcommittee.
• The Subcommittee on Sports aims to popularize and invigorate traditional sports, including traditional physical education and folk games, and traditional martial arts between NEAR members, and train young athletes.
• The first meeting of the Subcommittee on Sports was held alongside the 12th NEAR Working Committee Meeting in August 2019.

Major Activities

• Preserve and promote traditional sports
• Host events related to various traditional sports and traditional martial arts
• Strengthen cooperation and solidarity between NEAR members based on sportsmanship such as cooperation, mutual respect and friendship
