Background and Purpose
One of the 5 Sub-Committees established in the ’98 Meeting of the Association of Northeast Asia Regional Governments (the 2nd General Assembly) held in October 1998.
Toyama Prefecture became a coordinator having responsibility of contact, coordination and operation of the subcommittee in the first meeting held in June, 1999. Promotion methods of cooperation (i.e. joint investigation) in an environment sector were discussed and conducting unified investigation (i.e. investigation of individual project proposal and investigation of participating intention of individual project) was agreed.
The subcommittee is responsible for coordination of opinions of local governments, embodiment of project plans and examination and discussion of realization methods.

Report on the individual projects
(Education and development project on suppressing the occurrence of marine debris, project nurturing Northeast Asian youths to become leaders in environmental activities, poster contest featuring the environment in Northeast Asia, etc.)
