Subcommittee on Disaster Prevention

Background and Purpose

  • One of the 5 Sub-Committees established in the '98 Meeting of the Association of Northeast Asia Regional Governments (the 2nd General Assembly) held in October 1998
  • The purpose of the Sub-Committee is to contribute to improve the disaster prevention ability of the Northeast Asian region through exchanges in the disaster prevention field. Since each country and/or region has different capacity to cope with different natural disasters including earthquake, flood, forest fire, drought, and others, the Sub-Committee on Disaster Prevention has been implementing exchange projects in sharing information and fostering human resources.

Major Activities

  • Experience of disaster training, including lectures on Hyogo’s disaster prevention measures
  • Opinion exchange with staff of international disaster prevention organizations such as Asian Disaster Reduction Center and International Recovery Platform (IRP)
