On May 30, Secretary-General LIM Byung-jin met with CHOI Dosoung, president of Handong Global University (HGU), and exchanged ideas on the hosting of the 2024 NEAR Young Leaders Forum which will take place in August this year.

Mr. Lim provided a brief explanation on the hosting plan of the 2024 NEAR Young Leaders Forum and conveyed his hopes that HGU, a highly globalized university in pursuit of glocalism, joins the NEAR Secretariat in co-hosting the forum.

Mr. Choi replied, “The NEAR Young Leaders Forum is designed to provide a venue for the young adults from 6 countries in Northeast Asia to engage in various types of exchange, which will help not only to enhance the mutual understanding and friendly cooperation among the youth of Northeast Asia but also to upgrade the level of globalization of HGU,” expressing his agreement on co-hosting the forum.

The 2024 NEAR Young Leaders Forum is scheduled to take place at HGU in Pohang, South Korea from August 5 to 11 under the theme of “Standing Together, Thriving Northeast Asia,” providing an opportunity to discuss the roles of youth in Northeast Asia as well as their life concern and solutions.

HGU is one of the most globalized universities located in South Korea, nurturing international leaders of competitiveness based on the slogan of “Why Not Change the World?”

The NEAR Secretariat and HGU signed an MOU on enhancing mutual cooperation and developing highly-skilled human resource in September 2023.
