History
- 1419 : Raised to Daegu County.
- 1894 : Developed as a central region of the Yeongnam region.
- 1949 : Renamed Daegu City.
- 1981 : Raised to Directly Governed City status.
- 1995 : After being renamed Daegu Metropolitan City, Daegu has grown into a central city in the Yeongnam area. It has also expanded into an international city, hosting the 2003 Summer Universiade and the 2011 World Championships in Athletics.
Regional Characteristics
Located inland of the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula, Daegu is a vital transportation hub and the heart of the regional economy. Furthermore, it is a global knowledge-based free economic city and a textile and fashion city.
