History
- 1018 : Gangnam-do (Jeollabuk-do) and Haeyang-do (Jeollanam-do) Provinces are incorporated and named Jeolla-do Province. Anchalsa (commissioner), who overlooks the whole region, is appointed to Jeonju.
- 1896 : As the 13-province system is introduced, Jeolla-do Province is divided into South and North Jeolla-do Provinces. Jeollabuk-do Province, North Jeolla, consists of 26 counties.
- 1914 : Administrative districts bu and county are reorganized into 1 bu (Gunsan) and 14 counties.
- 2021 : The administrative districts consist of six cities and eight counties.
Regional Characteristics
- Jeollabuk-do Province is located in the southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula and borders the Yellow Sea on the west. It has ‘east-high and west-low’ landform characteristics with Gunsan, Jinbong, and the Byeonsan-bando National Park on the west and the Sobaek Mountains and Noryeong Mountains on the east.
