History

  • Dornogovi Province used to be called as‘Khereid Aimag’in the 11th and 12th Century of the Mongolian Empire. Reforming the structure of local administration, the national assembly and the government made a decision to establish Dornogovi Province in 1930.

Topographic Features

  • The Khentii Aimag is divided into three regions with different soil and ecosystems due to its geographical features and climate: 1. Taiga Region of Khentii Mountain; 2. Mongol-Daguuri, forest steppe region; 3.Dry steppe region of Dornod in Mongolia.

Geography/Climate
  • Area : 109,500㎢
  • Location : Dornogovi Aimag is situated in the South-East of the country and borders on the south with the People's Republic of China. The main city is Sainshand, which is 470km away from Ulanbator via railway.
  • Climate : It is located at the Govi Desert Region with some steppe, so the climate is capricious enough to make an atmospheric phenomena such as strong snowstorm, soil storm, drought, and heavy snow sometimes. The temperature reaches up and down to 40 degrees and 40 degrees below zero, even to 60 degrees in the summer.
