[Mungyeong City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea] Doline Wetland Is Registered on the Ramsar List, Acquiring International Recognition2024-03-05

On February 2, Gyeongsanbuk-do announced the registration of Mungyeong Doline Wetland on the Ramsar List designated by the Ramsar Convention.

 

Located in Sanbuk-myeon, Mungyeong City, Mungyeong Doline Wetland is a rare type of wetland created in a doline topography that typically does not retain water. 


Doline: A dish-shaped depression of the ground surface created by weathering of limestone-rich landscape that typically does not retain water.

□ Status


 ○ Location: Ugok-ri, Sanbuk-myeon, Mungyeong City, Gyeongsangbuk-do

 ○ Size: 0.494㎢ (49.4 hectares)


□ Ecological Value: As an inland mountainous wetland formed on limestone-rich doline, Mungyeong Doline Wetland is home to as many as 932 species of animals and plants, including 8 endangered species.


 ○ Statistics as of 2020: plants (466 species), birds (60 species), mammals (17 species), land insects (354 species), amphibians and reptiles (13 species), large invertebrates (22 species)

Threatened (7 species): Serpent, Diving Beetle, Grey Frog Hawk, Fairy Pitta, Marten,                                                   Leopard Cat, Flying Squirrel



□ International Significance: Mungyeong Doline Wetland holds topographic & geological value as a rare type of wetland formed in doline topography that typically has a high level of drainage.
