On June 6, Secretary-General LIM Byung-jin met with Vice Governor JIN Guowei at the Wu Yi International Hotel in Liaoning Province, where they had lunch and exchanged views on cooperation between the NEAR Secretariat and Liaoning Province.

Mr. Lim expressed his appreciation for Liaoning's decision to become the next NEAR chair and asked to play a leading role in the future development of NEAR and cooperation among local governments in Northeast Asia. He also introduced the procedures related to Liaoning's appointment as the next chair and the establishment of the Subcommittee on Digital Economy. In addition, Mr. Lim invited Liaoning Province to the 14th General Assembly, scheduled to be held this October.

Mr. Jin said that he was able to broaden his understanding of NEAR through Mr. Lim’s explanations during the Seoul meeting in March, and said that both LI Lecheong, governor of Liaoning Province and HAO Peng, communist party secretary of Liaoning Province attached great importance to NEAR and readily accepted the NEAR Secretary’s proposal to become the next chair. Moreover, he also expressed his best wishes for the NEAR Secretariat and asked for its active support for Liaoning’s implementation of the "Three-Year Action Plans for All-Round Promotion" and "New Liaoshen Battle" policies. 

The meeting was attended by LUO Li, director of the Foreign Affairs Office, HAN Bing, deputy director of the Development and Reform Commission, and JIAO Xiaoying, deputy director of the Border Control Office of Liaoning Province.  Also three staff members of the NEAR Secretariat including WOO Dae-beom, director of the Planning and Public Relations participated in the meeting.
