Six NEAR Secretariat staff, including Secretary-General Kim Ok-chae, attended the 26th Conference of Major Cities in the East Sea Rim Region on November 19. The conference was hosted by Pohang City, South Korea, and it was held both online and offline.
The theme of the meeting was “Ways to Conduct Economic Exchange and Vitalize Culture and Tourism Between Major Cities in the East Sea Rim Region.” There, representatives of 11 local governments from four countries—China’s Hunchun, Tumen, and Yanji Cities, Japan’s Sakaiminato, Tottori, and Yonago Cities, South Korea’s Pohang, Donghae, and Sokcho Cities, and Russia’s Vladivostok City and Khasan County—gave presentations on member cities and exchanged opinions.
The Conference of Major Cities in the East Sea Rim Region is a regional multilateral consultative group established in October 1994 to promote cooperation projects between local governments in Northeast Asia. It consists of cities of NEAR member regions. Hence, NEAR will strengthen cooperation with the conference going forward.
