NEAR Secretariat Holds Invited Lecture by Former Korean Consul-General in Sendai2018-05-31

The NEAR Secretariat invited the former Korean Consul-General Yang Gye-hwa to give a lecture titled 'Expansion of Exchange Between NEAR and Northeast Japan’ in Sendai on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Former Consul-General Yang spoke on the current status of the region, also known as the Tōhoku region, and introduced practical measures for the expansion of cooperation with the six prefectures that traditionally make up the region.
Secretary-General Hong Jong-kyoung expressed his appreciation for the proposals and invited further suggestions regarding methods for the expansion of exchange between NEAR members and the regional governments of Japan. Yang Gye-hwa is a diplomat of South Korea. She served for a total of eleven years in Japan, and made great efforts to develop friendly relations between the two countries. She served in the South Korean Embassy in Tokyo, South Korean Consulate-General in Hiroshima, and most recently at the South Korean Consulate-General in Sendai.
