The 6th NEAR International Forum, co-hosted by the NEAR Secretariat and the government of Khabarovsk Krai of Russia was successfully held in Khabarovsk, the center of Russian Far East with participation of more than 150 people, including scholars, entrepreneurs, and member regions. Under the theme of “One Northeast Asia Region, One Community”, the Forum was divided into three sessions; Unity between Eurasia and Northeast Asia Region, Seeking for New Growth Engine in the Region (Sub-region of Pan-East Sea/Sea of Japan), and Action for Climate Change and Environmental Issues in Northeast Asia Region. The Forum was attended by Vyacheslav Ivanovich Shport, Governor of Khabarovsk, Lee In-seon, Vice Governor for Political Affairs of the Province of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Michele Sabban, President of R20 Regions of Climate Action, Bernhard J. Seliger, Representative of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, Chung Tae-ik, Chairman of the Korean Council on Foreign Relations(KCFR), Dorj Shurkhuu, Director of Institute of International Studies of Mongolian Academy of Sciences, Mongolia, and Sung Weon-yong, Professor of Incheon National University for the presentations and discussions. NEAR is the largest interregional cooperative organization in Northeast Asia with the participation of 73 regional governments from six countries, including China, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, North Korea, and Russia, representing 320 million peoples and amounting to 3 trillion dollars in GRDP. In particular, Hamgyeongbuk-do and Rason si of North Korea has joined the NEAR. NEAR Secretary General Kim said that the Forum was a chance to learn awareness and action regarding various visions, policies, and experiences and the inevitability of exchange and cooperation from various renowned participants in Northeast Asia where interdependence in economy is high.
