Since one thirds of the myths in the Kojiki, the oldest chronicle of Japan, took place in Izumo, (in the eastern part of) Shimane Prefecture, it is assumed that powerful ancient kingdoms and cultures thrived in this region.

As part of the “Shimane-the Land of Gods” project to commemorate the 1300^th anniversary of Kojiki, Shimane will organize the “Japan Myth EXPO in Shimane 2012” from 21^th July to 11^th November. Close to the main venue Izumo Taisha Temple and the Izumo Historical Museum, a special exhibition site will be open to feature “Concept Projection Room (TBC),” “Shimane Attractions Stage,” “Local Specialty and Gourmet Corner,” and etc. Relevant municipalities and private organizations are making concerted efforts so that visitors may experience various attractions of Shimane.
