The 3^rd International Morin Khuur (Horse Head Fiddle) Festival was held from 29 April to 2 May in Ulaanbaatar City as part of the policy of the Mongolian Government to spread the recognition of the traditional instrument. More than 200 horse head fiddle musicians, researchers, scholars and craftsmen from various countries participated in the main event, including Mongolia, the Republic of Buryatia (Russia), China, Inner Mongolia, Japan, Germany, USA and Korea, especially with a record-high number of musicians from China and Japan (30 from each). In particular, the Japanese team brought out a concert level performance celebrating the 40^th anniversary of the establishment of Mongolia-Japan diplomatic relations.

The International Morin Khuur Festival is held every year to raise the profile of Mongolian culture and arts overseas and promote the research capabilities of scholars and the artistry of musicians. Morin Khuur is one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity identified by UNESCO.
