History

  • 1106 : Hanam-do (Chungcheongnam-do) Province is integrated into Chungcheong-do Province.
  • 1896 : With the implementation of the 13-province system during the Joseon Dynasty, the area is named Chungcheongbuk-do Province for the first time.
  • 1914 : Administrative areas are reorganized into ten counties and 114 townships.
  • 2021 : The administrative districts currently consist of three cities and eight counties.

Regional Characteristics

  • Chungcheongbuk-do Province is an inland province located in the center of the Republic of Korea. It is the only landlocked province in the Republic of Korea. With unique characteristics, it has close mutual relations with neighboring regions.
  • Chungcheongbuk-do Province is an independent geographic area. It forms a natural boundary with Gyeonggi-do Province and Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province in the north, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province in the east, Chungcheongnam-do Province in the west, and Jeollabuk-do Province in the south.
