History
- September 26, 1937: Vostochno-Sibirsky Kray was divided into Irkutskaya and Chitinskaya Oblasts.
- March 1, 2008: The present day Zabaikalsky Krai was formed by uniting Chitinskaya Oblast and Aginsky Buryatsky Autonomous Okrug.
Topographic Feature and Characteristics
- Zabaikalsky is located in the middle Taiga and steppe zones. More than 50% of its territory are covered with mountain Taiga forests (Dahurian larch, pine, cedar, and birch): grass and mixed herb steppe cover southern areas and valley floors. The largest in Russia deposit of copper - Udokanskoye - is located in the territory of Zabaikalsky with the resources of 20 million tons. Zabaikalsky is the main developing resource based on nuclear industry of Russia
