History

  • On March 1, 1914 four gun were consolidated to form Yeongil-gun (18 myeon)
  • On August 15, 1949 Pohang-eup was elevated to city status (1 city, 1 eup, 13 myeon, 1 local office)
  • On January 1, 1995 Pohang City was launched (1 city, 2 gu, 4 eup, 10 myeon, 25 dong, 1 local office)
  • On January 1, 2009 there was a small-scale merger of districts (1 city, 2 gu, 4 eup, 10 myeon, 15 dong)

Regional Characteristics

  • The leading knowledge-based industrial city in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and a hub of international exchange and marine culture.
