NEAR Secretariat Appoints Cho Sun-hwa as New Expert on China on October 162020-10-16

The NEAR Secretariat appointed Cho Sun-hwa as the new expert on China on October 16. She received a letter of appointment from Secretary General Kim Ok-chae, and started working at the Secretariat.


After majoring in Chinese Language and Literature at college and earning a Master’s degree from Peking University, China, Ms. Cho built up her international exchange experience at a South Korean consulate general in China for six years. She also taught Chinese at college in Korea until recently.


As the expert on China in the Department of the International Cooperation of the NEAR Secretariat, Ms. Cho is in charge of promoting cooperative projects with Chinese member regional governments and conducting area studies, as well as Korean-Chinese translation and interpretation. She stated that she would adjust to her new position swiftly and contribute to the development of the NEAR Secretariat.



Meanwhile, Piao Lijing, who had served as the expert on China at the NEAR Secretariat since October 2017, resigned as of October 15, 2020. Secretary General Kim presented her with a letter of appreciation to express gratitude for her efforts and hard work for the development of the Secretariat over the last three years.
