History
- 1314 : Named Gyeongsang-do Province for the first time.
 - 1896 : Named Gyeongsangbuk-do Province with the implementation of the 13-province system. A governor is appointed to Daegu to exercise jurisdiction over 41 counties in the area.
 - 1914 : The bu-county-township system is reorganized. (one bu, 22 counties, and one island)
 - 1949 : Daegu, Pohang, and Gimcheon are promoted to the status of city. Ulleung-do Island is renamed Ulleung County. (three cities and 23 counties)
 - 1966 : The provincial office is relocated to Yeonam-ro, Buk-gu, Daegu City.
 - 2016 : The provincial office is relocated to Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. (currently ten cities and 13 counties)
 
Regional Characteristics
- An excellent representative of Korean culture, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province is home to many ethnic cultures, including the Buddhist culture of the thousand-year-old Silla Dynasty, the culture of Gaya, and the Confucian culture of the scholarly spirit.
 - With superb natural scenery, a 335km coastline, and the clean East Sea, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province has potential and demand for development. As the center of the steel and textile industries, the province has served as a major driver of economic growth in South Korea. It is home to 38 universities, second only to the capital’s metropolitan area, securing a large pool of researchers and technological prowess.
